Funny the way it is...

Lyin’ in the park
On a beautiful day
Sun shine in the grass
And the children play
Siren’s passin’
Fire engine’s red
Someone’s house is burning down
On a day like this

The evening comes and we’re hangin’ out
On the front step
And a car goes by with the windows rolled down
And that war song is playin “why can’t we be friends?”
Someone's screamin’ and cryin’ in the apartment upstairs

Funny the way it is
And if you think about it
Somebody’s goin’ hungry
And someone else is eatin’ out
Funny the way it is
Whether right or wrong
Somebody’s heart is broken
And it becomes your favorite song

The way your mouth feels in a lover’s kiss
Like a pretty bird on a breeze
Or water to a fish
But a bomb blast brings the building crashin’ to the floor
Hear the laughter while the children play war

Funny the way it is
And if you think about it
One kid walks 10 miles to school
While another’s droppin’ out
Funny the way it is
No matter right or wrong
On a soldier’s last breath
His baby’s being born

Standin’ on a bridge
Watch the water passin’ under me
It must have been much harder
When there was no bridge just water
Now the world is small
Remember how it used to be
With mountain, and oceans, and winter’s, and river’s and stars

Watch the sky the jetplanes
So far out of my reach
Is there someone up there lookin’ down on me?
Boy chase a bird
So close but everytime
He never catch her
But he can’t stop trying

Funny the way it is
And if you think about it
One kid walks 10 miles to school
While another’s droppin’ out
Funny the way it is
No matter right or wrong
On a soldier’s last breath
His baby’s being born

Funny the way it is
No matter right or wrong
Somebody’s broken heart
And it becomes your favorite song

Funny the way it is
And if you think about it
One kid walks 10 miles to school
While another’s droppin’ out

Standin’ on a bridge
Watch the water passin’ under me
It must have been much harder
When there was no bridge just water
Now the world is small
Remember how it used to be
With mountain, and oceans, and winter’s, and river’s and stars

Nashville was a really fun city :) We saw a lot of interesting people and places. Definitely want to go back there and take friends. The above lyrics are from a Dave Matthews Band song. I haven't been as big on Dave in recent years...but now and then he comes out with something that reminds me of why i like his music soooo much.

This week is derby week...Saturday is the big run for the roses. yeehaw. We're going to lay low this year, I think. Go to some parties, make a couple dollar bets, etc. Possibly doing a "fake prom" with some friends just to be crazy later that night. not sure if I'm "in" or not yet on that idea. What does one wear to a wacky tacky fake prom?

We got this letter in the mail today for Nenaw. ugh. So painful sometimes...these things like this. I called my mom & read it to her. Its from her friend, Gene in Ky. They worked together years and years ago. Gene caught her up on all the losses of people they knew & then said "Susan, I hope you are doing well. Let me know how you are doing." Yeah. Now my mom has to write Gene a letter explaining that Nenaw passed away last year.
Its all part of what I love and hate about living here in the house she once lived in. Sometimes its nice, like having a huge part of her still in my everyday life thru little things like this. Sometimes its hard to have things like letters from people just pop up, making me wish I could chat with her about Gene & hear her laugh.

Anywho...its beautiful outside & I think its time for me to end this. much love.

And so it seems

It happens so regularly that it's predictable. The moment I decide to do good, sin is there to trip me up. I truly delight in God's commands, but it's pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge.

I've tried everything and nothing helps. I'm at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn't that the real question?

The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different.

Spring

Hope you all had a great Easter. Matthew & I stayed in Southern Indiana and worked quite a bit of the weekend. Sunday, my mom and cousin Kim went with us to church & Matthew played with the worship band. We had lunch at Shannon's with the family & then hung out at my Grandma's house. My cousin Brandon is in town from Florida for a couple weeks on leave from the navy. It was good to see him. Overall, everything was nice but lately my heart has been heavy. I am really missing Nenaw. It seems impossible even now that she passed on. Life is just so different without her.
Matt has been really overloaded with work for his Grad school class, grading for his classes at work, a project for the National Writing project, and his portfolio! On top of that, he got a stomach bug last week. Things should be better from today on for him...the bulk of the work is done now.
I am now working part-time (about 16hrs) at Dreams with Wings, and I am training to be an ABA Therapist through Meaningful Day Services. Meaningful Days is new to southern Indiana and so many people are just really excited about having a therapy program on our side of the river for their children. There really aren't many options for people who don't want to go to Louisville for services or private pay. After shadowing and attending team meetings...I am super excited about working for them!
This weekend is the famous Thunder over Louisville. Mattie & I are going to lay low this year. We've gone to the river & waded through the crowds each year since moving back here from Bloomington...and I think I'd rather catch the air show from my own backyard.
Next weekend we are off to Nashville for the weekend. We're going to see a concert & explore the city.
